"As a veterinarian I can see many uses for the Scoff Stopper. The main benefit is of course prevention of bloat. Bloat in dogs (gastric dilation & volvulus or GDV for short) is a rare but disastrous condition of mainly larger breed dogs. It is a condition that a healthy dog can go from being fit and healthy to suffering a painful & agonising death within a few hours. The dogs stomach fills up with gas like a balloon and twists and engorges causing immense pressure and pain to the dog. While many affected dogs die before their owners even notice it. Surgery to save the dog is its only option but is mammoth surgery, intensive and expensive. While there is still much conjecture as to what causes it there is general agreement that dogs eating rapidly and gulping down a lot of air in the process is a major contributor. This is where Scoff Stopper will help by slowing down the rate of consumption of the food it will minimise unwanted swallowed air and I believe greatly reduce the risk of GDV occurring or reoccurring.
The other main benefit that I can see is in minimising food related aggression. I have several dogs, one of whom is a scoffer. At the moment she finishes her food almost instantly and then goes on to try to steal the other dogs food. This is often the cause of tension or aggressive behaviour. (food guarding) With the Scoff Stopper she concentrates on her food while it gives the other dogs time to finish theirs. It is a quick and effective solution.
I also feel that the Scoff Stopper is likely to be of benefit in a wide range of other gastrointestinal disorders. The list is incomplete because up until this time there was no easy solution to slowing down the rate at which dogs may eat. I certainly expect the Scoff Stopper is likely to help in the therapy of gastroenteritis, pancreatitis, oesophageal or gastric ulceration, megaoesophagous, and obesity. I will certainly be using it often both on my own dogs and patients and highly recommend it."
